NEBSA Biosafety Education Scholarship Award

NEBSA intends to award an annual Biosafety Education Scholarship to one or more individuals who EITHER:

• have an educational background in science, engineering or health and are interested in moving into the field of biosafety

OR

• are currently serving or are interested in serving as a Community Representative on an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).

Each award shall consist of the following:

• Biosafety Education Reimbursement: Monetary support of up to $2000 to reimburse for registration fees to attend a multi-day comprehensive biosafety training course such as ABSA's Principles and Practices of Biosafety course.  Receipts and proof of attendance will need to be submitted for reimbursement.

AND

• Complimentary registration at the ABSA International Biosafety and Biosecurity Conference and the NEBSA Symposium during the year of the award.

Timeline

The scholarship application period is from March 1st to May 15th every year.  No applications or supporting materials will be accepted after May 15th.   Award recipient(s) will be notified and announced on the NEBSA website by June 15.  

Funds must be spent and receipts submitted to NEBSA within 1 year of award date.

Eligibility Requirements

Biosafety Education Scholarship Applicants must:

EITHER

• have an educational background in a science, engineering, health, or related field, and be interested in moving into the field of biosafety 

OR

• currently serve, or be interested in serving, as a Community Representative on an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Other educational backgrounds will be considered in this situation.

In addition, all applicants must:

• Reside in, or work in, one of the six New England states

• Not have previously won the award.

Application Requirements and Procedure 

All applications are reviewed by the NEBSA Board.   Applicants are required to complete and submit the online application form, available here: NEBSA Biosafety Education Scholarship Application Form.

In addition, applicants must submit:

• A resume or CV showing their full educational and work experience
• Two letters of recommendation from professional colleagues or mentors

These materials must be emailed to contact@ne-bsa.org and must be received by May 15th of the application year.  Questions about the scholarship process may be emailed to the same address.

NEBSA reserves the right to interview any and all applicants, and to choose not to award the scholarship in any given year.
